College hockey can be some of the more exciting hockey on display around the country. Every year loads of talent come in and take control of the league by storm. Prospects from all over the world use college hockey to expose themselves to professional hockey in North America, with hopes of making it to the National Hockey League. This season has seen some bright young stars surface from the water, and some matchups that will be highlighted for weeks to come. With playoff hockey coming up shortly, let's check up on standings and stats so far:

The Atlantic Hockey Conference is headlined by RIT, Sacred Heart, and Holy Cross. RIT spots the more impressive overall record, being over .500 by 9 games. It is a tight race towards the middle of the pack, as it will heat up closer to tournament time.

The Big 10 Conference is headlined mainly by Michigan State and Wisconsin. The Badgers from Wisconsin have hit the 20-win mark already this season, with 11 of those coming in conference. Minnesota and Notre Dame are close up in the rankings as well, as the Golden Gophers from Minnesota look to make it back to the National Championship game.

The Central Collegiate Hockey Association is headlined by Saint Thomas and Minnesota State. Saint Thomas is just in their third season at the Division I level, and they have been exceeding expectations with their performances. The middle of the division is tight, with there only being a four-point difference from 3rd to 7th place.

The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference is headlined by reigning national champion Quinnipiac, as they remained one of the best teams in all of college hockey. Cornell has been having a very good year as well, being ranked at #13 as of late. The ECAC hasn't been the most competitive in recent years, as Quinnipiac has been crowned regular season champions for 3 years in a row.

These two teams are the best in college hockey, showing off their speed and skills from top rated NHL prospects and future NHL draft picks. Maine (ranked #6) and Providence (ranked #10) are having remarkable seasons as well. When you have 4 teams from the same conference in the top 10 of the national rankings, you know that it will be a dog fight until the very end of the season.

The National Collegiate Hockey Conference is mainly headlined by North Dakota, as they rank #2 in the national rankings. This conference is always very competitive, as 6 of the 8 teams have a spot in the top 20 of the rankings. Overtime has been a familiar sight in the NCHC, as Colorado College has 5, and the Western Michigan Broncos are right behind them with 4. The talent pool never disappoints, and this year has been no different from years prior.

The Independent schools isn't recognized as a conference like the rest. These usually consist of schools that recently moved to the Division I level, or the geography of specific teams (Alaska, Arizona, etc.). Arizona State tends to headline these teams, breaking out in the mid to late 2010's, putting them on the college hockey map.

NCAA Players Represented at the 2024 World Juniors 





The World Junior Championship is an international tournament that is held after Christmas and goes into early January. It is held in a different spot/country every year, and it is an under-20 tournament, meaning the ages typically range from 17-20. This is why there are a number of NCAA players that play in this tournament, as it is a way to be able to represent their respective country. This is where a lot of them get their exposure to the NHL, as it's a perfect opportunity for scouts and coaches to look at the potential these players can have for a professional hockey career.
