The Minnesota Wild

Minnesota Wild

The 2026-27 season has the potential to be one of the most exciting seasons in the history of the Minnesota Wild's franchise. It also could be one of the most important ones considering the window they are in to compete for a Stanley Cup. After winning their first playoff series since the 2014-15 season, they seemed to be a contender from the Western Conference. The President's Trophy winners, the Colorado Avalanche, had other plans after beating them in just 5 games.

Quinn Hughes has been the talk of the offseason,
even going into the start of the current season. He
is currently on his last year of his current contract
waiting for a renewal. He is currently making just
under $8 million per year, but the former Norris
Trophy winner is expecting a big pay day. Fans
and NHL insiders have been debating about
whether or not he will stay in Minnesota. Hughes'
posted a career high in points in 2023-24 with 17
goals, 75 assists, and an astounding 92 points.

Jesper Wallstedt made some noise during his
rookie campaign, posting a record of 18-9-6,
4 shutouts, a save percentage of .916, and a
goals allowed average of 2.61. He was one of
the highly touted rookies of the year, finishing
6th in Rookie of the Year voting. Wallstedt has
set himself up for the starting goaltender job,
with goalie partner Filip Gustavsson recovering
from an injury.

Maxim Shabanov is one of the newly acquired
members of the Minnesota Wild. He has one NHL
season under his belt, playing his rookie season for
the New York Islanders. Shabanov posted 5 goals,
13 assists, and 18 points through 44 career games.
He played parts of 4 seasons in the KHL, the
professional league played in Russia, where he
posted a point-per-game season in his final one
in 2024-25. He is a highly touted player looking to
build chemistry with fellow Russian teammates
Kirill Kaprizov and Danila Yurov.

NHL Announcements for the Future of International Hockey

Image
NHL in the Olympics It is official. The National Hockey League is allowing current players to compete in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina, Italy. Commissioner Gary Bettman announced just a few days ago that the Olympics were a "go" in both 2026 and 2030. The NHL hasn't allowed players to compete in the Olympics since 2014. In 2018, it was the first year they wouldn't send players to compete for the sake of scheduling regular season games, as well as no pause for a few weeks in February. In 2022, it was mainly COVID that made them opt out for a second straight time. There was a pause in the NHL regular season because of the disease, so keeping players in North America was probably for the better.  In 2014, the two teams that competed for the Gold Medal were Canada and Sweden. Canada ended up winning by a score of 3-0, with goals coming from Jonathan Toews (Chicago Blackhawks), Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins), and Chris Kunitz (Pittsburgh Penguins). ...

Sidney Crosby - Part 2

Image
2013-14 Crosby nearly played a full season in 2013-14, playing 80 games. It was the most he had played in a single season since 2009-10 when he played 81. He put up 36 goals and 68 assists for 104 points, eclipsing the 100-point mark for the 5th time in 9 seasons. He led the league in assists, as well as points, which ultimately led to winning the Art Ross Trophy for the 2nd time, and the first since 2006-07. He got the honors of league MVP, taking home the Hart Trophy . It was his 2nd time being named the Most Valuable Player, and his 3rd time being nominated for the award. To top it all off, he was named the winner of the Ted Lindsay Award as well.  This was just one of many elite seasons that Crosby has put up, and it brought Pittsburgh back to the postseason where they lost to the New York Rangers in the Second Round. Crosby put up just 1 goal and 8 assists in 13 games, which isn’t very “Crosby like.” Crosby was also a ...
