My name is Carter Newpower, and I am a 21-year-old freshman at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota. I am from Cottage Grove, Minnesota and have lived there for the entirety of my life. I played multiple sports growing up, with those being hockey, baseball, and golf. I currently play hockey for Saint Mary's and hope to have success throughout my time here. Outside of hockey, I have a number of different hobbies. I like to listen to music during most of my free time, mainly country. My top two artists are Morgan Wallen and Cody Johnson, as they are played constantly throughout the day. I like to spend time outside whenever the weather allows me to. I like to travel to different places around the country, including recent vacations to Las Vegas, Hartford, and Breckenridge.

I really enjoy being up at my cabin, which is located in Outing, MN, a small town about 45 minutes from the Brainerd area. I enjoy just about anything you can think of when at a lake in up north Minnesota, which include fishing, boating, yard games, sitting around a bonfire, and enjoying quality time with friends and family.
Pictured here is the lake we have our cabin on, which is Lake Washburn. This is also just one of many sunset pictures that I have taken over the years, as I enjoy photography as well, especially up at a beautiful place like this.

How did I get to Saint Mary's? After playing three years at my high school, I went to play junior hockey in Mason City, Iowa. I played for the North Iowa Bulls/Mason City Toros (there was a team name change after my first season).

The first season of my junior career was easily the one where my team had the most success, as we won the national championship and took home some hardware. It's definitely the memory that sticks out to me the most during my hockey career.

The next two seasons down in Iowa were exceptional, as I put up some good numbers and took home some individual awards during both seasons. Junior hockey was an unbelievable experience for myself, as I created friendships and memories that I can take with me forever.

I committed to play hockey for Saint Mary's in April of 2023, and I am majoring in Public Relations and Digital Media. I am excited to write this blog throughout the duration of this semester!
