NHL Late Season Recap


As the 2023-24 NHL season is coming to a close, the playoff race is heating up. With just a few weeks left of games, there is a tight race towards the top of the standings, as well as the wild card race. There have been many individual milestones that have been achieved during this season, season wide or career wide. Let's check on the current stats and standings as the season winds down:

Auston Matthews - The forward for the Toronto Maple Leafs has hit the 60-goal mark for the 2nd time in his career, hitting his 62nd of the season against the Florida Panthers. He is the front runner for the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy for the 3rd time in his career.

Connor McDavid - The forward for the Edmonton Oilers is doing what he has been doing ever since he joined the league, and that is taking control of the league. McDavid has the chance to do something that hasn't happened since the 1990's: Hitting the 100-assist mark. He recorded a league best 65 goals last season, and he will lead the league in the opposite category to end this season.

Nikita Kucherov - The forward for the Tampa Bay Lightning is looking for his 2nd career Art Ross Trophy, with the race being as tight as can be. He is currently tied with Avalanche forward Nathan Mackinnon, with Oilers forward Connor McDavid trailing by one point. Kucherov hit the 40-goal mark for the 3rd time in his career, sitting at 42 currently.

NCAA Division I Hockey College hockey can be some of the more exciting hockey on display around the country. Every year loads of talent come in and take control of the league by storm. Prospects from all over the world use college hockey to expose themselves to professional hockey in North America, with hopes of making it to the National Hockey League. This season has seen some bright young stars surface from the water, and some matchups that will be highlighted for weeks to come.
